The term
journalism can be viewed from three points of view: harfiyah, conceptual, and
practical. In harmony, journalism (journalistic) means journalism or
authorship. The basic word journals (journal), meaning report or record, or
jour in French which means day (day). The origins of the ancient Greek, du jour
which means day, i.e. the events of this day are preached in printed sheets.
Conceptually, journalism can be understood from three perspectives: as a
process, technique, and science.
1. As a
process, journalism is the activity of searching, processing, writing, and
disseminating information to the public through mass media. This activity is
done by journalist (journalist).
2. As a
technique, journalism is the expertise or skill of writing journalism (news,
articles, features), including expertise in the collection of writing materials
such as reportage and interviews.
3. As a
science, journalism is the field of study on the making and dissemination of
information (events, opinions, thoughts, ideas) through the mass media.
Journalism including applied science is dynamic and continues to grow in
accordance with the development of information and communication technology and
the dynamics of society itself. As a science, journalism is included in the
field of communication science studies, namely the science of reviewing the
process of delivering messages, ideas, thoughts, or information to others with
the intent to tell, influence, or provide clarity.
